01/29/08 The Law of Attraction So I thought I’d devote a little time to the law of attraction (LOA). If you haven’t seen the movie “The Secret”, see it. Then you’ll know what I’m talking about. In addition, and probably as a prerequisite, you should see the movie “What the #!%$* do we know?” (Commonly referred to as “What the Bleep do We Know?”) I’d also recommend a large dose of reading about Quantum Physics, Eastern Philosophy, Western Philosophy, Cosmology, and (all) Religion. I certainly don’t claim to know a lot about these things, but there is one thing I do know – There are a lot of things we (as the human race) don’t know. I also know that we will never know everything, ‘cause, just like the universe, knowledge is infinite. The more we learn, the more we know we don’t know. I’ve heard science referred to as being like peeling an onion, there is always a layer beneath the layer you are on. I think I’d say it’s like peeling and onion from the inside out ‘cause if you are going in, eventually you’ll reach the center but if you are going out you’ll never reach the outside. The layers just go on for infinity. (But then maybe going toward the center is applicable if you are talking about a Black Hole!) The one thing I think our science today leaves out of its equations is consciousness. One of the first experiments a student learns in physics is the double slit experiment wherein light can be either a wave or a particle depending on what the observer wants it to be. What you want is what you get! Yet, as we progress in our knowledge about science we forget the lesson learned in that simple experiment. We get what we look for. Our consciousness determines the outcome. Physics has yet to determine why quantum “weirdness” is not observed in our everyday sensory world. By weirdness I mean the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, light’s wave/particle duality, the EPR Paradox, the Copenhagen interpretation, and Schrödinger’s Cat. (If you are unfamiliar with these terms, see paragraph one.) Those who believe in a totally objective view of science will disagree with me here, but I think “The Secret” is scratching the surface of these effects of consciousness on our observable reality. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? That’s an often heard philosophical question, but there is a higher meaning to the old saying. If there is no consciousness in the Universe, does the Universe exist? Same thing, only on a larger scale. For, without consciousness, there is no reason for the Universe to exist. In fact you could carry that further and say; Without an observer, nothing can exist. For how can you prove something exists if it is unobservable? (And for this argument, observable means any form of detection.) Therefore, I submit that consciousness is the first ingredient of a Universe. Without consciousness of you and I, the Universe would not exist. We, collectively, create the Universe as we (collectively) see fit. Creation of the Universe is a truly democratic process. Let there be light! Mission: To shine a light of reason in a world besieged by propaganda, marketing, and irrational beliefs.Visitors:
